March 5, 2008 - Emp Fairing, HS Tip, Cover |
||||||
The next day I went down to the basement to see how the fairing came out. First I peeled off the peel-ply, then I removed the fairing. It came out great! Better than I ever hoped for. After a little sanding, you can see how well it came out below. Now the fairing fits tightly to the HS leading edge. I still have some filling and sanding to do on the fairing before painting. |

The left HS tip needs some build-up
on the upper surface so that it is even with the Elevator tip. I
made a barrier on the edge of the HS tip using plastic and some
cardboard. I mixed up some epoxy and dumped micro balloons in until
the mixture was lke peanut butter. Then I pounded it on top of the
HS tip and spread it around a
little.

Looking at it from another

I finally am getting to bending the tabs on the center cabin cover (firewall section). I ended up doing this by clamping a piece of angle along the bending edge, then sliding an aluminum piece in the gap and pulling it -- and the tab -- towards me.
My technique worked reasonably well. I'll have to put another coat of rustoleum hammered silver because I scrapped the cover up some when bending the tabs.
